Update - 26th February 2010
National League comes to the Island this weekend as Guernsey’s Women take on the visiting UWIC Archers 2. Archers are in good form but the advantage of the Guernsey crowd will surely give Guernsey a lift.

International referees Roger Harrison and John Wells return to the Island to officiate and bring with them two top table officials – Becky Orleans and Clare Ormandy. Joe Maloret will join them on the table for the 11.30 tip t Beau-Sejour.

Good luck to everyone involved!

This past weekend saw both the Guernsey men and Women in action. The Men lost a tough game to Bognor Pirates on the Saturday, succumbing to a 7 point defeat while the Women managed a 54-39 victory over Plymouth Marjons. On Sunday both teams suffered heavy defeats at the hands of the very experienced Solent sides. Both coaches were happy with the performances but realise there is much work to be done before the Inter Insulars on 17th April.

Domestically LMS Arbarth are still undefeated in Division 1 with Heat and KB Storm in Men’s Division 2 and the Women’s division respectively able to boast the same record. The social league remains open with all teams having lost at least once. We look forward to some close games in the coming weeks as the leagues enter their final stretch.

On the junior development front Fez is working hard with the Under 21’s and Under 17’s to prepare them for the Inter-Insular battle on 17th April. Looking to the future, we are preparing a development plan with the aim of encouraging new players, coaches, officials and volunteers into our sport. I am hopeful that the committee will have some good ideas to bring to the table as we look to secure the future of the game. We also hope to encourage sponsors to help fund initiatives while raising money ourselves through fundraisers, memberships and accreditation with EB which makes us eligible for funding through their various partners.

We are always looking for contacts, volunteers or bright ideas from the general Basketball Community so if you want to get involved, please email us!

Good luck to everyone playing, coaching or enjoying the game and I look forward to updating you with our progress over the coming weeks.
