Yorkshire Guernsey Basketball Leagues

Women's Division B

Capital PVC 13 v Bachmann 59

Bachmann continued their unbeaten start to the league with a comfortable victory over Capital PVC.  The Bachmann team lead from start to finish as they controlled the game through Julie Elmy.  Capital fought hard and always competed on the defensive end of the floor but their shooting will need to improve if they are to challenge the other teams in the division.  Bachmann's scoring was fairly even over the four quarters with Julie Elmy (17) and Helen Rowe (14) leading the way.  Final score 13-59 in favour of Bachmanns.

Batif 40 v Martel Dunn 28

Batif returned to winning ways in the Women's B league with victory against Martel Dunn on Wednesday night, but it was far from easy, as the former St Sampsons team turned in a much improved performance.  Batif were lead by Annette Mariott and Wendy Van Katwyk as they provided 32 of Batif's 40 points.  The first half was a close affair with both teams scoring freely. However it was Batif who took the half time advantage as they stretched the lead to 8. Halftime score 22-14.  Into the third quarter and Martel Dunn again lead a fight back closing to within 6 but that was as close as they got as Batif stepped up a a gear in the fourth to make the scoreline a little more comfortable at the finish 40-28.  Mariott and Van Katwyk both scored 16 for the winners.

Division 2

Collins Stewart 43 v Manzur 59

Another big game in Division 2 as two of the early favorites clashed at Beau-Sejour.  CS were without any of their big men with Andy Yabsley and Naro Zimmerman out with broken arm and ankle respectively and Charlie Archenoul also out through injury.  Despite this, CS made the better start as they worked well in the opening quarter to lead 13-9.  Into the second and CS continued to increase their lead until a 8-0 run by Manzur bought them back to within 1.  A three from Andre De Carteret and a lay-up from Andy Shaw pushed the lead out to 6 again but 9-0 run by Manzur to end the quarter gave them the half time lead 26-29.  The warning signs were there for CS as Manzurs big men - Neal Bewey and Mark Le Page accounted for 16 of their sides 20 second quarter points.  The third and fourth quarters followed suit as Manzur turned the screw under the basket.  Le Page was having a field day as he lead all scorers with 18 backed up by Bewey with 14 and by the end of the game, Manzur eased to victory by 43-59. Andy Shaw had a good game for CS with 16.

La Frat All-Stars 58 v Goldridge Estate Agents 54

La Frat met unbeaten Goldridge in the second division and the two sides served up an exciting game of basketball.  GEA started the better of the sides as Robin Smith took his chance under the basket to give his side a 9-16 lead.  Into the second quarter and Goldridge remained in control thanks to Glenn Walker and Phil English who contributed 14 of their sides second quarter points.  Halftime score 19-33.  The third quarter was the turning point of the game as La Frat suddenly found their scoring touch. Liz Kerr and Neil Davey providing the ammunition from deep as they connected on 4 three's and numerous lay-ups to remarkably take the lead 49-45 with the final stanza remaining.  Into the fourth and both teams struggled from the floor and the line.Combined, both teams were 4 from 16 from the free throw line but a three and a couple of baskets for La Frat ensured they remained on level terms for the quarter to pull of an unlikely victory by 58-54.  Kerr finished with 17 for La Frat as did Phil English for Goldridge.

Richmond 84 v Bredoyle 40

Richmond and Bredoyle met at Beau-Sejour on Friday and it was Richmond who took the honours in a one side contest.  Richmond lead from start to finish and never looked in trouble as they dominated the opening exchanges.  The scoring was spread evenly as they moved the ball around looking for the best option.  Bredoyle's only resistance came from Tristan Cairns who continued to score freely, managing 17 in a solid performance.  At the half Richmond lead 45-22 and the writing was on the wall.  The second half continued in a similar vain with lay-ups and open shots a plenty.  Tom Creed, Gavin De La Mare and Andy Elder all played well as their side eased to a 84-40 victory.  De La Mare lead all scorers with 22.

Development League

RGF 52 v Central Sports 29

RGF found the going tough at times against a vastly improved Central Sports side, but they still came away with a fairly comfortable 52-29 win at Elizabeth College.  They lead from start to finish thanks to Laurence Lord (17), Christian Jeorcelin (12) and Scott Le Page (12) as they capitilised on Central's mistakes to make some easy lay-ups.  Central Sports fought valiantly and produced a better offensive display for which they can be proud of.  In the end though, the more experienced RGF side opened up the lead and cruised to victory by 52-29.

Women's Division A

Placing People First 37 v The Learning Co. 39

The Learning Co. moved to 3 & 0 as they eventually fought of the challenge of PPF in a game that was decided in overtime.  The first half belonged to PPF as they played some excellent basketball.  Amy Wright was on fire for PPF as she helped her side to a 18-13 halftime lead.  TLC improved in the second half as they leveled the game but it looked as though they had just run out of steam as they found themselves down by two in the final few seconds of play.  Fortunately for TLC, the experienced Tracy Martel was fouled on her way to the hoop and she stepped up to the line and calmly nailed both freebies to take the game to OT.  In a tight extra 5 minutes, TLC with the momentum managed to take the lead and hold on for a 37-39 victory.  Amy Wright lead all scorers with 18 points.

Business League

RBC 55 v Les Camps 26

RBC remain unbeaten in the Business League as they comfortably beat Les Camps at Elizabeth College.  They lead from start to finish with Aaron Le Masurier the catalyst with 17 points. To Les Camps credit, they never gave up and contested everything and they look a much better side for it.  On this occasion RBC had just a little too much fire power as they ran out winners 55-26.

Kleinwort Benson 28 v Specsavers 26

KB got their first win of the season thanks to three point shooting from Jai Yau.  Specsavers were without the injured duo of Phil Sweet and Matt Le Cras and without Sweets leadership, they struggled to orgainse themselves in defence.  KB were grateful to Yau who scored 15 points and ran the offence for the full 40 minutes while rallying his troops at the defensive end.  Rochelle Vaudin lead Specsavers with 8 points but her side fell short as KB managed a 28-26 victory.
