CS overran a depleted U21 side on Wednesday night to claim another victory in Division 1. CS were always in control, leading from the start as Liam Smyth, Nigel Govett , Jason Hooper, Paul Wilkes and Dave Wilson finished in double figures. Only Scott Rowe shone for the Juniors with 12 points in the heavy loss. Final score 77-27 in favour of CS 2. WIlson top scored with 16, while Wilkes and Hooper added 15 a piece.
Division 2
Collins Stewart 61 v Goldridge Estate Agents 37
In the Div KO, a scrappy affair was eventually won by CS, but they were made to work all the way by a determined GEA side. CS started well and raced into a 10-4 lead but they were pegged back to 10-10 by the end of the first. Into the second and GEA pounded the ball inside using their height advantage and it paid off as they scored 10 straight to lead 10-20. CS were not about to give up though and they went on a 12-0 run to end the quarter and put themselves ahead at the half 22-20. CS also edged a close third quarter as both teams struggled with their finishing but CS had managed to stretch the lead to 6 (37-31). The fourth quarter saw Collins Stewart take the game by the scruff of the neck as Anthony Safari lead the way scoring 7 straight points to open the quarter. CS never looked back and although Goldridge fought until the end, they could not get back into the game and succumbed to a 61-37 defeat. Jim Rowe lead the scoring with 15 for the victors.
La Fraternelle All-Stars 57 v Manzur 70
La Frat and Manzur returned to league action and served up an interesting encounter in the second division. The game was tight through the first two quarters with guards on top - Liz Kerr for La Frat and Dan Cooper for Manzur lead the way as Manzur came from 5 down to lead 28-30 at the half. The third quarter was again close as the lead changed hands but Manzur again just edged it with 8-2 run to close the quarter and with it open up a 4 point lead 41-45. Into the final stanza and it looked as though the game could go down to the wire as La Frat cut the lead to 2, but Stuart Dunne had other ideas for Manzur as he went on a tear in the fourth scoring 11 points to blow the game open. As La Frat became frustrated, Manzur secured victory with a few break away baskets - final score 57-70. Kerr lead the way with 26 for the All-Stars while Cooper notched 19 in his sides win, assisted by Dunne with 15.
Goldridge Estate Agents 44 v Brock Road
Goldridge played their second game in 3 days as they faced Brock Road in the league. The game was won in the first quarter as Ricard Fletcher and Scott Rowe punished the GEA defence from inside and out to lead 9-21. Into the second and Rowe continued to have his own way down low as Brock Road increased their lead - only Andy Lamb for GEA offered any resistance as he took the fight to his youthful opposition - halftime score 19-37. The third quarter belonged to Fletcher again as he banged in another 4 three pointers and with just a quarter remaining his sides lead was comfortable at 62-31. The fourth quarter followed suit as Brock Road piled on the points to secure the victory by 44-80. Fletcher lead the way with 29 while Rowe added 25. Lamb finished with 17 in his teams loss.
Women's B League
Batif 53 v GTS All Stars 14
Batif overcame title rivals GTS in the Women's B League in a one sided contest at Beau-Sejour. Annette Marriott and Wendy Van Katwyk were the catalysts as the potent partnership accounted for 23 of Batif's 35 first half points. Everything the pair shot seemed to go in while at the other end GTS could not buy a bucket. By halftime Batif had established a big lead by 35-11. Into the second half the heavy scoring slowed but Batif's defence, combined with poor GTS shooting remained as GTS managed only 4 points in the second 20 minutes of play giving Batif an easy victory by 53-14. Marriot finished with 15 while Van Katwyk added 14 for the winning side.
Business League
Kleinwort Benson 25 v RBC 51
RBC continued their march to their title as they overcame an improving KB side at Elizabeth College. RBC had a little too much at the offensive end as they opened up a 13-21 first half lead. KB were not helped by the loss of their leading point guard Jai Yau who was carried from the court after sustaining an ankle injury. Into the second half and RBC turned the screw as Aaron Le Masurier, Lance Redpath and Steve Hubert all found the basket with regularity. In the end the win was a comfortable one as RBC took the honours 25-51. Le Masurier added 18 in RBC's win.
Les Camps Eagles 40 v Dee-Caf Magics 47
Les Camps and Dee-Caf met in the Business League in what turned out to be a good game of basketball. Dee-Caf controlled the opening quarter leading 2-12 by the end but Lee Garland helped his side to a more respectable half time scoreline 14-23 in favour of the Magics. Dee-Caf continued to stretch the lead in the third and heading into the final stanza, they lead 26-37. Les Camps mounted a comeback in the fourth as they managed to cut the lead to 5 with a few minutes remaining but it was not to be as Dee-Caf held on for 40-47 win. Will Clements lead Dee-Caf with 19 while Adam Dorey scored 15 for Les Camps.
Development League
RGF 72 v Central Sports 14
RGF showed their bouncebackability after last weeks defeat at the hands of Collins Stewart as they put Central Sports to the sword. Although leading 14-5 after the first quarter, RGF felt that better defence was required as the applied a full court press for the majority of the second half. Central sports battled hard but the bigger and more experience RGF side capitalised on the numerous turnovers to take the victory 72-14. Laurence Lord scored 28 in his sides win.
