GBA Home                 Wednesday 22nd November - 6.15pm Martel dunn v Eventure Hornets 7.30pm Goldridge Estate Agents v Colourcare Cavaliers 8.45pm Collins Stewart 2 v Le Mont Saint...

Yorkshire Guernsey Basketball Leagues

Division Two

Island Women 60 v Colourcare Cavaliers 47

The Island Women claimed their first victory of the season as they produced a solid team performance to defeat Colourcare by 60 points to 47. Liz Kerr lead the way as she scored 25 points but she was ably assisted by a rejuvenated Lenka Cervinkova (13 points) and promising junior Amy Wright (14 points). Colourcare trailed for most of the game and were grateful to Rhys Ward who scored 18 points in his side's loss. A strong second half saw the women claim victory with some room to spare.

La Frat Allstars 91 v Colourcare Cavaliers 37

The Cavaliers were back in action at Beau Sejour as they faced La Frat Allstars in what turned out to be a very one sided contest. The three prong attack of Adam Grogan (25), Neil Chester (24) and Tone Dundon (20) were too much to handle for the young Cavaliers side as they struggled to maintain their defensive composure. Chris Simon with 14 and Chris Ahne with 12 offered some resistance but it was La Fraternelle who claimed a deserved win by a 54 point margin.

Manzur 92 v Bredoyle 41

Manzur continue their impressive start to the season as they ran riot against Bredoyle in the second division. Dan Cooper and captain Neal Bewey led the way with 23 and 21 points respectively but were backed up by Matt Sarle who scored 18 from inside. Bredoyle were guilty of committing too many fouls and turnovers which were duly punished by Manzur's solid transition game. Kees Jager with 10 points was the only player into double figures in his sides 92 - 41 defeat.

Richmond 100 v Island Women 34

Richmond defeated a young Island Women's side by 100 points to 34 in the second division on Friday night. With an average age of 23 Guernsey's future island stars showed some good potential against a strong Richmond side. Against their bigger and faster opponents the Island Women at times struggled to contain the free flowing Richmond offence. Tom Creed (25), Sam Inder (22), James Ashplant (22) and Andy Elder (19) led the way for Richmond as they ran out comfortable winners.

Development League

Dee-Caf Dreamers 20 v Collins Stewart Juniors 85

Collins Stewart continue their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable victory over Dee-Caf. They led from start to finish as they overran their opponents with a number of fast breaks, usually finished by captain James Alderton or Martin Perrio. Dee- Caf continue to improve but on this occasion were well beaten by the league leaders as they succumbed to a 20 - 85 defeat. Alderton led all scorers with 30 and Perrio added 24.

RGF 77 v Dee-Caf Dreamers 30

Dee-Caf were once again in action as they met RGF in the development league. Dee-Caf showed a marked improvement from their last game and at times caused RGF some problems. Despite this RGF continued to attack and were grateful to Laurence Lord with 25 and James Sinclair-Scott with 23 as they eventually ran out comfortable winners by 77 points to 30 to remain hot on the heels of Collins Stewart.

Collins Stewart Juniors 47 v Central Sports 10

Collins Stewart Juniors made it five wins out of five with a solid victory over Central Sports. Central Sports struggled to find the basket with any regularity as they wasted too many opportunities around the basket. Collins Stewart were not at their fluent best but they did enough through James Alderton's 15 points to claim a victory by 47 points to 10. CS Juniors have a chance to further their league advantage when they face RGF on the 24th November.

Women's Division

Capital PVC 21 v Martel Dunn 45

The opening round of the women's knock out got underway at Beau Sejour and first into the hat for the next round are Martel Dunn as Chris Lamb's side defeated brother Andy's by 45 points to 21. Abbey Manley-Guilbert top scored with 10 for the winners. (Full report in Guernsey Press on Friday 17th November)

Collins Stewart 59 v Bachman 27

Women's A met Women's B and as predicted Collins Stewart came out on top with room to spare. Despite an early scare which prompted CS to deploy a full court press Bachman were overpowered by the mother - daughter combination of Lorna and Kerri Brown who scored 22 and 14 respectively. Bachman never gave up but in the end suffered their first defeat of the season by 59 points to 27.

Martel Dunn 54 v Capital PVC 19

Martel Dunn claimed their second victory over Capital in the space of a week as they comfortably defeated their rivals but this time with league points at stake. Martel Dunn were led by the fast break trio of Katy Bougourd, Steph Wilson and Tanya Martel who scored 12, 12 and 11 respectively.

Bachman 28 v GTS Allstars 38

In what some would consider a shock defeat in the B league GTS beat pool leaders Bachman by ten points. The game was too tight to call throughout but GTS showed their improvement mainly thanks to Sammie Redhead's numerous blocks and jump shots - she scored 14 of her team's 38 points. Kerry Baldwin was also on hand to add 12 of her own points. Bachman fought hard via Julie Elmy's 13 points but this time the youngsters ran out deserved winners. GTS must now be considered serious contenders in the B league.

Business League

Kleinwort Benson 36 v Les Camps Eagles 34

In a close contest in the business league Kleinwort Benson squeezed out a two point victory over Les Camps Eagles. There was never more than four points in it as the lead swung one way and then the next. KB were paced by Richard Perrio (10 points) but the Eagles hit back through Adam Dorey with 15 and Sam Lewis with 11. Heading into the fourth quarter the Eagles held a slender two point lead but their inability to make free throws cost them dear as KB surged back to take the game by 36 points to 34.
