Coaches Blog... by Patrick Ogier
Im in my second stint as Women's coach and really enjoying the build up to Rhodes. Personally, I feel that this is the best squad I have coached in my time in charge. The whole 15 or 16 players have worked extremely hard and are looking forward to defending their title in July. There is a lot of hard work ahead in the next 5 months but I am confident that if everyone buys in to what we want to achieve, we will go far. They are not only a great team, they are great people to be around and a pleasure to coach.
Liz - Liz captains the side and brings quality and leadership to a fairly young squad. She is without doubt the best female player the Channel Islands has seen and she continues to make the team better.
Emma Pattimore (Webbley) - Glad to have her back. She is great point guard with lots of experience - a real match winner on her day. Bit of a joker and never fails to raise a smile!
Tracy (Motel) - Tracy Tracy is one of the mothers of the team - always making sure everything is in order. Another experienced campaigner with good knowledge and the same desire now as she had as 15 year old playing in her first Inter-Insular. Third Island games and a great player to have on the team.
Jo (Jo Jo) - Jo is excited about her first Island games and deserves her place in the squad. She is working hard in training and gives us good options at guard and forward spots.
Lorna - First Island games. Lorna is a larger than life character that has adapted well to basketball. Has the potential to be a great low post player if she keeps working hard.
Kerri (Princess) - Kerri is a great player. Quick and skilful, shoots well and plays defence - a real asset to the squad. Screams of "mum" (referring to her mother Lorna) on the basketball court always draws a laugh!
Emma Hicks (Pixie) - Emma is going to be a Island starter, no doubt. She listens and learns and plays hard every time she steps on the floor. A perfect back up PG.
Amy - Amy offers quickness at forward or down low. Easy to coach and willing to learn, Amy is another definite for the future.
Lenka - Lenka is back and playing well. I have asked her to be more aggressive and selfish and she hasn't disappointed. Essential part of the team.
Gemma (Gem) - Gemma is intense. She has a "go hard or go home" attitude that sometimes scares me! She has the potential to be a great player and continues to improve.
Christina - Christina has come out of nowhere and her game impresses me. Her aggressive nature brings something different to the squad. She has fitted in really well and is well liked by her team mates.
Vicky (HP) - Vicky is fiery character! She is a hard worker and is improving all the time. I am confident that she will be a big part of Guernsey's basketball future.
Jamie Roussel (Assistant coach) - Jamie has been my assistant for a number of years and has to bear the brunt of my temper!! Always willing to offer his advice, he makes the job of keeping the teams in check relatively easy. Seems to have a problem with time keeping...although he blames this on his partner ,children, car, parents, traffic, work or anything else that comes to mind!
