Goldridge de Beauvoir 18 v The Learning Co 40 (T Martel 14)
Goldridge de Beauvoir faced the Learning Company in Wednesdays League Division 3 match. The young Goldridge side gave a good account of themselves right up until the 6th minute of the 3rd quarter. With the score at 16-14 in favor of the Learning co, TLC proceeded to go on a 11-2 run to close the quarter leading 27-16. They continued this run into the fourth and eventually ran out comfortable winners by 40-18. This was a much better performance from the Goldridge side and their confidence will be high going into their next game. Tracy Martel lead all scorers with 14 for the victors who will be pleased with the win but will be looking for improvement in their upcoming fixtures.
Martel Dunn 58 (K Robert 18) v CIA All-Stars 31
Martel Dunn overcame an enthusiastic CIA side in the first round of the Division III knockout. The All-Stars have already shown their potential this season with some good displays and amongst their ranks have a future stars in the making. For now they will have to wait as Martel Dunn, lead by Kate Robert, proved too strong on this occasion. The more experienced Martel Dunn side shot the ball well and converted a high percentage for their chances - Roberts draining three 3s in her 18 point haul. They scored fairly evenly throughout the match and never really looked liked losing but they had to work hard, which was credit to their opposition. The final score of 58-31 was a fair reflection on the game and both sides will be happy with their respective performances.
Le Mont Saint 55 (Tracey 13) v Under 21 Juniors 73 (Archenoul 31, Hooper 13)
Le Mont Saint faced the Under 21 men in Fridays Division 1 fixture looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. The Juniors welcomed back Richard Davey to a side containing 5 under 17 players. Le Mont Saint were without guards James Roberts and Rachid Frihmat and this was emphasised in the first quarter as Le Mont Saint struggled to with their set offence, unable to consistently find their big men to take advantage of the height difference between the two sides. Luke Archenoul, awaiting his US visa, started well for the Juniors making things happen on the U21 offence. His strong play and excellent shooting ensured the juniors had a 11 point lead going into the second half. As Archenoul sat, Jason Hooper and Matt Skillett picked up the slack and pushed their advantage to 15. Le Mont Saint continued to struggle on their offence as many shots rimmed out to the safety of a an U21 player and when Archenoul checked back into the ball game, he gave people a glimpse of what he will bring to his new high school team as he nailed two huge triples keeping the juniors in the lead by 52-39 with the final quarter to come. James Tracey and Mark Barnett tried to kick start their team into action but the Juniors hot streak continued with another 4 three pointers being scored in the final 10 extending the lead to 18 points by the close. This was certainly the upset of the season so far but it was encouraging for the Under 21s as they begin to form a solid unit heading towards the March Inter-Insulars. Le Mont Saint will be disappointed with the 73-55 loss and hope that the return of their guards will bring a better performance when they face Collins Stewart 1 on November 16th. Archenoul lead all scorers with 31, assisted by Hooper with 13 and Tracey lead the way for Le Mont Saint with 13.
Friday 4th November
Martel Dunn 60 (Roberts 21, keiller 18) v CIA All-Stars 19
Martel Dunn and CIA met for the second time in a week but it was the same outcome as Martel Dunn swept their opponents aside by 60-19. It was once Kate Robert once again who set the tone adding another 3, three pointers to her ever growing tally but she was well supported by the improving Ali Keiller who scored 18 points from close range. Martel Dunn were just too strong for their young counterparts and recorded their second win of the week by 60-19. Roberts top scored with 21 for Martel Dunn.
La Fraternelle All-Stars 52 (Kerr 18) v Brock Road 57 (Fletcher 18, Sawbridge 12)
La Fraternelle and Brock Road produced an exciting game in Fridays division two clash. Brock Road have made a marked improvement and with La Frat missing key players, this was always likely to be a close match. Brock Road, in their orange kit, made the brighter start thanks to Ricard Fletcher's 8 first quarter points which gave his side the lead by that many at the end of the first. La Fraternelle cam out hard in the 2nd quarter and reduced the deficit by limiting Brock Road to just 7 points. At the half Brock Road held a slender advantage 27-24. The All-Stars continued their charge in the third and had it not been for some woeful free-throw shooting could have lead by 10. However they had to settle for a two point lead and with one quarter remaining the score was 41-39 in favor of La Fraternelle. The first three minutes of the 4th proved to be decisive. Brock Road stopped their opponents scoring whilst connecting on 3 consecutive three pointers to open up a 48-43 lead. La Fraternelle pulled to within 3 with a minute remaining but as time wound down and La Fraternelle having to foul to stop the clock, Brock Road kept their composure to sink 3 of their final 4 free-throws to register a great win by 57-52. Fletcher and Kerr lead their respective teams with 18 a piece.
