It seems like only yesterday that Guernsey Basketball was sunning itself in Rhodes for the Island Games. By our own admission, the Women were disappointed to place just outside the medals but the Men had a solid tournament with their highest ever finish of 6th, which included an all important victory over arch rivals Jersey.
We are once again hoping for improvement in 2009. The Women’s team will be fresh and well rested after a tough National League campaign, which we hope will give them the tools to be amongst the medals once again. The men will be looking to gain a place or two in the rankings and who knows maybe even bring home a medal!
Aland, approximately an hour by ferry from Stockholm, are in full swing with their preparations and the basketball venue looks like an extremely good facility. Although Aland do not have a basketball team, they have hired the help of some of Sweden and Finland’s top Basketball organisers to help them put on a fantastic tournament.
Updates regarding team selections, entrants and accommodation, tournament format and schedule will be posted here in due course.
