The England Basketball Leagues (EBL) includes teams from the senior level right down to the under 13 age group and currently they have over 500 teams and more than 7000 registered players competing nationwide.
Guernsey is competing for the first time in the Women’s Division 2 South West & Midlands league, facing teams from Cardiff, Bristol, Taunton, Birmigham and Guildford.
As Guernsey does not currently have a facility that meets the National Leagues standards, the team will be playing their home games at Hamble Sports Centre in Southampton. Although not ideal, it is a fantastic facility and the staff have really helped Guernsey find a home for the forthcoming season.
The jump to National League is the next logical step in the development of Women’s basketball on the Island. We have a strong league which brings players through at basic levels but a lack of competition ultimately leads to players not reaching their potential or giving up the sport all together. We hope that our experience in this league will give younger players a goal to become part of the National League squad and also help our current players improve and pass their knowledge on to the younger generation.
The Guernsey Jets owe a great deal of thanks to many people but especially the following…
Carey Olsen
Financial Risk Management
Cliff Fullbrook (Solent Suns)
